Launch of the reconstruction of the Daguirou - Galamo section of the Dikhil region
On Thursday, February 17, 2022, the launching ceremony for the reconstruction of the Daguirou-Galamo section of the RN1(60 km) took place. The event took place under the high patronage of HE Prime Minister, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed. Also present were HE the Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment, Mr. Hassan Houmed Ibrahim, the President of the Ports and Free Zones Authority, HE Mr. Aboubaker Omar Hadi, as well as a delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development led by the Executive President, HE Sultan Ben Abdourahman Al Morshed.
During his speech, HE Mr. Aboubaker Omar Hadi, the President of the Authority of Ports and Free Zones, and also the President of the Board of Directors of Djibouti Ports Corridor Road SA (DPCR SA), insisted on the importance of the corridor roads for the Ports of Djibouti, and for the economic and trade integration between Djibouti-Ethiopia.
"A developed road corridor network is an essential integration tool for the creation of interconnected infrastructures that promote national and regional commercial dynamism, as well as the emergence of new activities" – Chairman.
He also added that "more than 1,500 trucks use National Road 1 daily, travelling from or to Ethiopia". At the same time, the chairman declared that more than "one million tons of humanitarian aid have been transported via our corridor roads, mainly the RN1".
This 28-month project will help improve port connectivity with the hinterland, by reducing the travel time of truckers and local users by 80% between Dikhil and Galafi. Correspondingly, this project will significantly reduce transport costs, increase accessibility to medical evacuations and supplies, while enabling the emergence of activities that will generate employment and wealth.
